The Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory in Mesa, AZ, were a group of African-American cavalrymen who served in the United States Army from 1866 to 1944. The group was named after the Native American tribes they fought against during the Indian Wars of the late 19th century. The Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory were initially assigned to protect settlers and government personnel within the Arizona Territory, but they eventually became part of the US Army's larger mission to control the growing number of hostile Native American groups in the area.
The Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territory were predominantly African-American and formed part of the segregated 10th Cavalry Regiment of the US Army.
