THEATRE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA

The Theatre Historical Society of America (THS) is an organization dedicated to preserving the history of the American theatre and related arts. The society was founded in 1969 in Elmhurst, Illinois, and is one of the oldest non-profit organizations devoted to the study and preservation of the American theatre.

THS promotes the preservation and documentation of theatres, movie palaces, and related venues across the United States. The society has a library and archives with over 20,000 books, photographs, posters, and other materials related to the history of the American theatre.

THS also sponsors educational programs, tours, and lectures and publishes the quarterly journal Theatre Historical Society of America Bulletin. The society also hosts an annual conference and awards a number of awards each year for outstanding contributions and achievements in the preservation of the American theatre.

The society also provides grants to organizations and individuals for the preservation of theatres and related venues. THS works in partnership with other preservation organizations such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the American Institute of Architects to preserve and document theatres.
