ONIZUKA MEMORIAL COMMITTEE

The Onizuka Memorial Committee (OMC) is a non-profit organization in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The primary focus of the OMC is to honor and preserve the memory of Col. Ellison Onizuka, a local hero who died in the 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. The Committee was established in 1997 by a group of local citizens to pay tribute to Col. Onizuka's sacrifice and recognize his many accomplishments.

The OMC's mission is to foster, promote, and celebrate Col. Onizuka's legacy. The committee works to maintain his memory through educational programs, public events, and other activities. The OMC also maintains an online archive of Col. Onizuka's life, works, and accomplishments, and provides a variety of educational resources about his life and contributions to the community.

The OMC sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including the annual Ellison Onizuka Memorial Day celebration, held each January at the Ellison Onizuka Space Center in Kailua Kona. The event includes inspirational speeches, educational activities, and other activities honoring Col. Onizuka's life and legacy. The OMC also holds an annual memorial service at the space center in memory of Col. Onizuka, as well as other events such as the Ellison Onizuka Summer STEM Camp and the Ellison Onizuka Science Fair.

The OMC also works to provide financial support to local schools and universities to help foster and promote the legacy of Col. Onizuka. The OMC has provided scholarships for students interested in STEM fields, as well as grants for educational programs related to space exploration.

The OMC is committed to preserving the legacy of Col. Onizuka and ensuring his memory is remembered and celebrated for generations to come.
