The Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden is a 14-acre garden located in Captain Cook on Hawaii's Big Island. The garden was established in 1978 and is dedicated to preserving the traditional knowledge of Hawaiian culture and the native plants of Hawaii's Big Island. The garden is divided into several sections, each of which is dedicated to a different aspect of Hawaiian culture and its relationship to the land and its native species.
The main section of the garden includes a variety of native Hawaiian plants such as hala, lama, noni, kukui and koa. There is also a section dedicated to medicinal plants, which includes plants used for medicinal purposes. The garden also includes a section dedicated to traditional Hawaiian farming, as well as a section dedicated to plants and flowers used in Hawaiian leis.
In addition to the gardens, the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden also features an educational center, which offers lectures and classes related to Hawaiian culture and native plant uses. The garden also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, such as the annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival and the annual Holua Kuauli Hawaiian Cultural Festival.
