The John Young Museum of Art is a premier art museum located on the campus of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Established in 1993, the museum serves as a center for the study, appreciation and preservation of the visual arts of Hawai‘i and the Pacific region. The museum is named in honor of John Young, the first native Hawaiian to receive a degree in the visual arts, who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Hawai‘i in 1916.
The John Young Museum of Art consists of two floors of galleries and a sculpture courtyard. The ground floor galleries feature a permanent collection of art from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, as well as changing exhibitions from local, national and international artists. The second floor galleries focus on works from the Hawai‘i-Pacific region, including the Hawaiian Islands and Melanesia, Polynesia and Micronesia.
The museum also hosts a variety of educational programs for children and adults, including lectures, workshops, and family days. The museum also offers docent-led tours and special events such as concerts, film screenings and art classes. The museum shop offers unique gifts and souvenirs related to the visual and performing arts of Hawai‘i.
