The Tybee Island Veterans Monument Committee was founded in 2004 as a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the service of veterans in the Tybee Island area. Located in Chatham County, Georgia, the mission of the organization is to recognize and honor veterans in the area and to promote public awareness and education of the contributions made by veterans to their community and country.

The committee works to ensure the recognition of veterans by erecting monuments, memorials, and markers, as well as organizing special events and activities. Currently, the committee has erected two monuments, one dedicated to veterans of World War II and another dedicated to veterans of the Vietnam War. The committee is also in the process of creating a memorial garden to honor all veterans.

The committee is made up of volunteers, including veterans and members from the local community. The volunteers work together to fundraise, plan, and implement projects and events to honor veterans. They also offer educational programs and activities to promote awareness of the contributions of veterans in the area.

The organization works to connect veterans in the area and to build relationships with local businesses and the community. Mercer Williams House Museum 5675 <a href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_House_" rel="noreferrer nofollow">en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercer_House_</a>(Savannah,_Georgia) Mercer House (now the Mercer Williams House Museum) is located at 429 Bull Street in Savannah, Georgia.[3] Completed in 1868, it occupies the southwestern civic block of Monterey Square. The house was the scene of the 1981 killing of Danny Hansford by the home's owner, Jim Williams, a story that is retold in the 1994 John Berendt book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The house is also featured in the movie adaptation of the book, released three years later.

Established in 1733, <a href="https://visitsavannah.com/article/history-savannah" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Savannah claims</a> it is America's first planned city.† Georgia's founder and member of Britain's Parliament, Mr. James Oglethorpe designed the layout of Savannah, which was the first settlement in 1733 of the brand-new colony of Georgia. The Oxford graduate envisioned a land where the liberal ideals of the Enlightenment could be realized. And didn't William Penn do something with Philadelphia? Correct me if I'm wrong but I also vaguely recall that <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_St._Augustine,_Florida" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Saint Augustine in Florida</a> (est. 1565) predated Jamestown and Plymouth settlements. Besides a big European-style brick fort, didn't it have a planned Spanish grid layout? But hey, Spanish-colony and Catholic. Doesn't count, right?😉 Having said that, this tourist saw a clear difference between the Enlightenment-inspired layout of Georgia's Savannah (see American Society of Civil Engineers comment above: e.g. non-hierarchical, parks equally available for each, abolitionist, equal-sized property plots) and Florida's pre-Enlightenment settlement of Saint Augustine.
