Walker County African American Historical & Alumni Association (WCAAHAA) is a non-profit organization located in Decatur, Georgia. Founded in 2005, the association’s mission is to preserve and promote African American history in Walker County. Through research, education, and preservation, WCAAHAA seeks to promote an understanding and appreciation for the past and present.
The association collects and archives photographs, documents, oral histories, artifacts, and other materials related to the history of African Americans in Walker County. The collection is used to provide educational programs and lectures, as well as to create educational materials such as books, videos, and exhibits.
WCAAHAA also sponsors an annual scholarship program for students at Walker County high schools. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, and community involvement.
In addition, WCAAHAA hosts several special events throughout the year. These include the Annual Heritage Day Picnic, which celebrates the history and heritage of Walker County’s African American community, and the Annual Hall of Fame Banquet, which honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the local African American community.
Through its efforts, WCAAHAA seeks to promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the African American experience in Walker County.
