The Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails in Evans, Georgia, is a network of sites and trails that commemorate the state’s role in the American Civil War. The trails and sites in the network were officially launched in 2004 and now include over 160 sites throughout Georgia. Each site offers insight into the events, people, and places that shaped the state’s history during the Civil War.

The Evans, Georgia, portion of the trails includes five sites. Visitors can tour the historic Old Town Cemetery, established in 1797 and the final resting place of many Confederate soldiers. At the Confederate Monument, a soldier stands atop a stone obelisk, honoring all the soldiers who died in the war. The site also includes a Museum of Confederate History, which houses artifacts and documents related to the Civil War.

The trails also feature a battlefield park, which offers visitors a glimpse of the war’s impact on the local area. The park is home to monuments, markers, and interpretive displays that honor the Union and Confederate soldiers who fought in the area.

At the trails’ final site, the Confederate Memorial Library, visitors can explore the library’s collection of books and artifacts that document the history of the war in Georgia. Through these sites and trails, visitors can gain an understanding of Georgia’s role in the Civil War, and the impact it had on the local area.
