▶ <i>Martin L. Ruff — a prominent pioneer settler of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobb_County,_Georgia" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Cobb County</a>, who owned land and mills nearby— built the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruff's_Mill_and_Concord_Covered_Bridge" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Concord Covered Bridge</a> in 1872. Constructed to a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_post" rel="noreferrer nofollow">queen post</a> design, the bridge replaced another believed to have been built in the 1840s and destroyed during the Civil War. Rebuilt again since (including by Ruff's son), the bridge is the <b>only covered bridge still in use on a public highway in metropolitan Atlanta</b>.</i>

▶ "<i>The bridge is 131.7 feet long and 16 feet wide. It originally consisted of two spans, each a queen-post truss with steel (or iron) tension rods. The center abutment seems to have been widened from a previous bridge using the same pier. In the 1950s, steel beams and concrete piers were added to support the bridge.

</i>☞<i> The surrounding <a href="https://concordcoveredbridge.org/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Concord Covered Bridge Historic Area</a> —and <a href="https://www.cobbcounty.org/parks/parks-and-nature/locations/heritage-park" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Heritage Park</a>— also feature remnants of Ruff's Mill (the scene of a Civil War battle) and ruins of a dam and woolen mill. The miller's house is now a private residence.</i>"

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is the state law enforcement agency responsible for the protection of citizens and visitors of the state of Georgia. Established in 1937, the GSP carries out its mission of providing public safety services through the enforcement of laws and regulations on the state's roadways and highways. The GSP is divided into seven Troops, each headed by a Colonel. The Patrol is headquartered in Atlanta and operates Troop A, located in the Atlanta metro area, and Troop B, located in the Macon area.

The GSP is responsible for enforcing all traffic laws of the state and for safety education of the public. It is also responsible for providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies in Georgia, as well as for providing emergency response to disasters and other natural or man-made events.

The GSP is composed of several divisions, including Motor Carrier Compliance, Special Operations, Criminal Interdiction, and Special Services. The GSP also has a K-9 unit, an Aviation Unit, and a Dive Team. The GSP is also responsible for providing security at the state Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, and numerous other state buildings.

In addition to its service as a law enforcement agency, the GSP also participates in many public safety education programs, such as its "Click It or Ticket" campaign, and its "Operation Safe Child" program. The GSP also provides safety training for drivers, commercial vehicle operators, and school bus drivers. The GSP is also a member of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's "Alert Today Alive Tomorrow" program, which promotes seat belt and child safety seat use.
