The Gordon County Historical Society Inc. is a non-profit organization in Calhoun, Georgia, dedicated to preserving the county’s rich history. Founded in 1972, the Society has been actively involved in the restoration and preservation of local sites, artifacts, and documents for over four decades.
The Society has been instrumental in the preservation and restoration of numerous local historical sites and artifacts, including the Gordon County Courthouse, the Gordon County Jail, the Calhoun Depot Museum, and the Gordon County Confederate Monument. The Society also works to document and preserve local cemeteries and historic structures, and to promote the county’s rich cultural heritage.
The Society hosts an annual heritage festival, featuring a variety of activities such as an antique car show, arts and crafts, historical reenactments, and musical performances. The Society also offers educational programs and field trips for area school groups, as well as special programs and activities throughout the year.
The Gordon County Historical Society is open to the public, and memberships are available. Membership benefits include access to the Society’s library, newsletters, and access to special events. The Society also provides assistance to individuals and organizations researching local history, and offers assistance with genealogical research.
