The Marietta Historical Society Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Marietta, Georgia, dedicated to preserving the city’s history through education and research. Founded in 1969, the Society is the oldest continuously operating organization devoted to the preservation of Marietta’s history.

The Society’s mission is to collect, preserve, interpret and share the history of Marietta, its people and its buildings. Through the organization’s resources, the public is able to gain an understanding of the city’s past, and its cultural and architectural heritage.

The Society’s activities include educational programs and events, such as lectures, workshops, and walking tours, as well as a museum exhibit, and a research library. The Marietta Museum of History, which is owned and operated by the Society, is the city’s only museum dedicated to the history of Marietta and its people. The Museum has a variety of permanent and changing exhibits, including a replica of the city’s original courthouse. The research library holds a collection of books, manuscripts, photographs, and maps, and is available to the public for genealogical and historical research.

The Society also publishes a quarterly newsletter and a yearly journal, and is active in the local community by participating in events such as Marietta’s annual Independence Day celebration. The Society also provides support to a variety of local groups, including the Marietta High School history club and the Marietta Historic Preservation Commission.

The Marietta Historical Society Inc. is committed to preserving the city’s history and providing educational programs and resources to the public. Through its efforts, the Society ensures that Marietta’s past is not forgotten.
