▶ <i>Martin L. Ruff — a prominent pioneer settler of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobb_County,_Georgia" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Cobb County</a>, who owned land and mills nearby— built the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruff's_Mill_and_Concord_Covered_Bridge" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Concord Covered Bridge</a> in 1872. Constructed to a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_post" rel="noreferrer nofollow">queen post</a> design, the bridge replaced another believed to have been built in the 1840s and destroyed during the Civil War. Rebuilt again since (including by Ruff's son), the bridge is the <b>only covered bridge still in use on a public highway in metropolitan Atlanta</b>.</i>

▶ "<i>The bridge is 131.7 feet long and 16 feet wide. It originally consisted of two spans, each a queen-post truss with steel (or iron) tension rods. The center abutment seems to have been widened from a previous bridge using the same pier. In the 1950s, steel beams and concrete piers were added to support the bridge.

The miller's house is now a private residence.</i>"

The Georgia Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Dunwoody, Georgia. The foundation is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the American chestnut tree, which was once a dominant species in the eastern United States but has been decimated by a blight fungus. The chapter is part of a larger national organization that works towards the same goal, with a focus on breeding and reintroducing disease-resistant chestnut trees to the wild.

The Georgia Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation is made up of volunteers who are passionate about the restoration of the American chestnut tree. They organize events and fundraisers to support their efforts, including chestnut tree plantings and educational workshops. The chapter also works with landowners to plant chestnut trees on their property and to educate them about the importance of preserving this species.

The chapter has been successful in breeding and planting disease-resistant chestnut trees in Georgia, and they continue to work towards their goal of restoring the American chestnut to its former glory. Their efforts are not only important for the preservation of a species, but also for the ecological health of the eastern United States. The American chestnut was once a vital part of the forest ecosystem, and its restoration will have a positive impact on the environment as a whole.
