The Upson Historical Society in Thomaston, GA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Upson County's unique cultural heritage. Founded in 1981, the society operates the Upson County Museum, which houses a variety of artifacts and exhibits related to the county's past. The museum is open to the public, and admission is free.

Chomp !! Alligator Gar Catch Their Own Supper !! The Warm Springs National Fish Hatchery, GA consists of 56 acres with 40 ponds totaling 18.23 acres of water. Station goals include restoring and managing interjurisdictional coastal and riverine fishes such as striped bass, alligator gar, and lake sturgeon and recovering species listed under the Endangered Species Act, such as the endangered Gulf sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and imperiled freshwater mussels. Fathead minnows, mosquito fish, and goldfish are used as live forage to feed several species cultured on station including alligator gar and striped bass. This picture shows how the gar will eat live fish as soon as their are added to tank. Gar are reared on floating pelleted feed during the entire culture period. Before the gar are released, they are fed live food. This will train the gar to go after and catch their own dinners. This will hopefully prepare the gar for life in the wild.
