The Barrow County Museum in Winder, Georgia is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and promote the history of Barrow County and its surrounding area. The museum houses a rich collection of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other materials that tell the story of Barrow County and its people.
The museum exhibits are divided into five main areas that showcase the history, culture, and heritage of Barrow County. These areas include: the General Exhibits, which feature artifacts and documents from the home and business lives of Barrow County citizens; the Military Exhibits, which feature artifacts and documents related to the history of the military in Barrow County; the Historic Sites, which feature artifacts and documents related to the local architecture and history of the area; the Natural History Exhibits, which feature artifacts, documents, and photographs related to the natural history of the county; and the Education Exhibits, which feature artifacts, documents, and photographs related to the educational history of the county.
The Barrow County Museum also hosts a variety of special events, including lectures, workshops, film screenings, and community programs. The museum also offers a variety of educational programs for students and visitors of all ages. These educational programs include guided tours, hands-on activities, and research opportunities. The museum also offers a gift shop, which features a variety of items related to Barrow County history and culture.
The Barrow County Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm and is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and holidays. Admission is free and the museum is wheelchair accessible.
