The Southern Arts Federation (SAF) is a regional nonprofit arts organization based in Atlanta, Georgia. It serves the creative community of the American South with a range of programs and services. Founded in 1975, SAF works to strengthen the region's creative sector by supporting and advocating for the arts, building public/private partnerships, and fostering the growth of the creative economy.
SAF is dedicated to advancing the arts in the South through its programs, grants, and initiatives. Its programs include the Southern Arts Access Initiative, which provides access to quality arts experiences for underserved communities; Southern Exposure, which provides support for small and mid-sized organizations and artists; and the Arts Education Collaborative, which works to ensure access to quality arts education for all students. SAF also administers grants to individual artists, organizations, and community projects, as well as professional development opportunities.
SAF is committed to advancing the arts as a way to build community, create opportunity, and increase access to the arts. Through its advocacy efforts, SAF works to ensure that the arts are supported by public and private funding, and that the needs of the region’s creative community are addressed.
In addition to its work in the South, SAF also works to advance the arts nationally and internationally. It is a partner in the National Endowment for the Arts’ Creative Forces: NEA Military Healing Arts Network and is a participant in the Global Cultural Districts Network.
