WOODROW WILSON HOUSE

The Woodrow Wilson House, located in Augusta, Georgia, is a National Historic Landmark and was the home of President Woodrow Wilson from 1871 until his death in 1924. The two-story Victorian house was built in 1871 and was the home of Wilson’s parents and their seven children. Its exterior features numerous classical features, such as a hipped roof, gabled dormers, a wrap-around porch, and decorative details of Italianate and Queen Anne styles.

Inside, visitors will find the home’s original furnishings, including pieces from Wilson’s personal collection. Many of these items, including furniture, photographs, and artwork, were acquired during Wilson’s world travels and time in the White House. The home also houses a period library, including a selection of Wilson’s books and periodicals, which he used to inform his views and opinions on political, social, and economic issues.

The Woodrow Wilson House was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and is owned and operated by the Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society. It is open to the public for guided tours, and visitors can explore the home’s history, view its decorative features, and view artifacts from its original occupants. The house also hosts special events, including lectures, educational programs, and musical performances.
