Anna Maria Island Historical Society (AMIHS) is an educational non-profit located in Anna Maria, Florida. Established in 2000, AMIHS’ mission is to preserve and interpret the history, culture, and environment of Anna Maria Island. Their goal is to provide educational opportunities to the community and to share the unique history and legacy of the island.
AMIHS offers numerous programs and activities including guided tours of the island and its historical sites, classroom presentations, lectures, and videos about local history, and educational programs for school groups and organizations. They also have a variety of exhibits and displays at their museum, located in the Anna Maria City Pier.
AMIHS’s library and archives are located in the Community Center and contain materials related to the history of Anna Maria Island and the surrounding areas. The library is open to the public and offers a variety of research and educational materials, including books, photographs, documents, maps, and oral histories from island residents and visitors.
AMIHS is also involved in a variety of projects to help preserve the island’s historical landmarks and sites, such as the Anna Maria City Pier, the historic Green Village, and the Coquina Beach Historic District. They are committed to educating the public about the island’s rich history and its importance in the development of Anna Maria Island.
