The Lemon Bay Historical Society Inc. (LBHS) in Englewood, Florida, is dedicated to the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Lemon Bay and its surrounding areas. Founded in 1988, the LBHS strives to keep the history of Lemon Bay alive by collecting, preserving, and exhibiting artifacts, records, documents, photographs, and other material related to the area.

The LBHS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, run by a Board of Directors and staffed by volunteers. The LBHS is located in an historic building in Englewood, Florida, and is open to the public six days a week. The building contains a small museum, a research library, and a gift shop. The museum houses a variety of exhibits, including artifacts from the area’s Native Americans, pioneer settlers, and early settlers, as well as exhibits about the area’s natural resources, the history of the fishing industry, the citrus industry, the timber industry, and local lore. The research library contains both published and unpublished materials, including books, magazines, newspapers, maps, photographs, and other documents related to the area’s history.

The LBHS also operates two historic sites in the area: the Englewood Pioneer Cemetery and the Englewood Train Depot. The LBHS offers a variety of special events, programs, and field trips throughout the year, including lectures, educational programs, and historic tours. The LBHS also publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Chronicle, which is available to members.
