The Historic St Augustine Research Institute Inc. (HSARI) is a non-profit organization based in St Augustine, Florida. It was established in 1989 by historians and archaeologists to research and preserve the historical and archaeological sites and artifacts of St. Augustine and its surroundings. HSARI is dedicated to the preservation of St. Augustine's rich heritage and its associated artifacts.
HSARI is committed to conducting state-of-the-art research and education through archaeological fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and public outreach. HSARI’s research activities focus on the historic period (1565-1821) and are designed to document and interpret the history, lifeways, and material culture of the people of St. Augustine. HSARI has conducted numerous research projects, including excavation and analysis of the colonial-era Spanish Quarter, the early 19th-century Llambias House, and the Fort Mose archaeological site.
HSARI is active in the community, hosting field trips, lectures, and workshops for students, teachers, and the general public. The institute also maintains a museum collection, which is available for research and educational purposes.
HSARI is supported by grants and donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The organization is governed by a board of directors and managed by a staff of archaeologists, historians, and educators.
