The O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona is best known for the gunfight that took place there in 1881. The corral is a small, walled-in area located in the town of Tombstone. It was built by Ike and Billy Clanton in 1879 and was used to stable their horses and those of their cowboys.
The infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place on October 26, 1881. It was between the Clanton and McLaury brothers, and their associates, on one side, and Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil Earp and Morgan Earp on the other. The gunfight lasted only about 30 seconds, during which time 30 shots were fired and three of the men in the Clanton-McLaury group were killed.
Today, the O.K. Corral is a tourist attraction. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the O.K. Corral and its grounds, as well as see a reenactment of the gunfight. There is also a museum on site that contains artifacts, photos and other memorabilia related to the O.K. Corral gunfight. The museum is open year-round and is one of the most popular attractions in Tombstone.
