SUNCOAST AQUATIC NATURE CENTER ASSOCIATES INC (SANCA) is a non-profit organization located in Sarasota, Florida, dedicated to promoting the conservation and appreciation of the Sarasota Bay and its surrounding wetlands. The mission of SANCA is to promote a healthy Sarasota Bay and its surrounding environments through education, research, and conservation.
SANCA was founded in 1990 and was the first organization in Sarasota to focus on environmental education and research. The organization's main programs include conservation and restoration, educational programs, and research-based initiatives.
SANCA works in collaboration with local and state agencies, universities, and private organizations to promote the conservation and sustainable use of Sarasota Bay and its surrounding wetlands. The organization also works with local and regional governments and other organizations in developing and implementing management plans for the Sarasota Bay and its surrounding areas.
SANCA provides educational programs for students of all ages, from kindergarten to university. Programs include hands-on activities such as salt marsh plantings and oyster shell collections, as well as lectures and field trips.
SANCA also coordinates research-based initiatives, such as monitoring water quality, fish populations, and seagrass beds; surveying aquatic vegetation; and studying the effects of human activities on the environment.
SANCA works to ensure that future generations will enjoy a healthy and productive Sarasota Bay and its surrounding wetlands.
