The Tongass Historical Society Inc. (THS) is a nonprofit organization located in Ketchikan, Alaska. The mission of the THS is to preserve, protect and promote the history, culture and heritage of the Ketchikan and surrounding area. Founded in 1966, the THS was the first historical society in Alaska and is the only one located in the Tongass National Forest.

The THS has an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, oral histories, and other related items that document the history and culture of the area. The society also has a library and archives which contain a variety of materials related to the history of Ketchikan and the surrounding area. The THS runs an education program which includes lectures, field trips, and workshops, as well as offering tours of the museum and archives.

The THS also has a variety of programs and events throughout the year, including a summer camp, craft classes, and a fall festival. The society also hosts a number of special events, including a local history fair and a Christmas bazaar. The THS also works with the local schools to provide educational programs and activities for students.

The THS works to preserve the history and culture of the Ketchikan area and to promote the area as a tourist and recreational destination. The society is a member of the Alaska Historical Society and the Alaska Museums Association and is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The THS also works with the local government and other organizations to promote the heritage of the area.
