Friends of Fort Taylor (FOFT) is an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of Fort Taylor in Key West, Florida. Established in 1989, they are a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that works in cooperation with Florida State Parks to protect and conserve the natural and historical resources of the island. FOFT was founded by a group of dedicated individuals who wanted to ensure that the unique history of Fort Taylor would remain intact for generations to come.

Fort Taylor is a 19th-century fortification and a National Historic Landmark located on the southern tip of Key West. It was originally built in 1845 to protect the keys and the harbor from foreign attack. Today, it is one of the best-preserved historical sites in the country, and it is a popular tourist destination.

FOFT works to preserve the fort by conducting public education and outreach programs, organizing special events, and advocating for the preservation of the fort's historic resources. Every year, the organization hosts a variety of events such as guided tours, lectures, and workshops. The group also works to ensure that the fort remains accessible to the public, by creating and maintaining trails and walkways.

In addition to protecting Fort Taylor, FOFT also works to protect the surrounding marine environment. They are involved in coral restoration projects, beach cleanups, and other habitat restoration initiatives. They also advocate for sustainable fishing practices and ocean conservation.

FOFT is a great example of how passionate individuals can work together to protect and preserve the history and natural resources of a region. By joining forces, they have made a huge impact on the preservation of this special place.
