The Gamble Plantation State Historic Site in Ellenton, Florida is a preserved antebellum mansion from the mid-1800s. It stands as a reminder of the lost era of plantation life in Florida. The plantation was built in 1843 by Major Robert Gamble, a prominent sugar planter and slaveholder who was among the first settlers of Manatee County.

The main house is a two-story Greek Revival-style building with Doric columns, a central hall and double parlors. The site also includes a detached kitchen and a detached one-story brick building with two rooms which were used as slave quarters. The site is comprised of the house, outbuildings, and a 150-acre plantation.

The Gamble Plantation was the site of the last Confederate surrender of the Civil War. After the Civil War, the plantation was used as a hotel and then as a winter residence. The plantation was acquired by the State of Florida in 1962 and it was designated as a Florida State Historic Site in 1969.

Today, the Gamble Plantation State Historic Site offers educational tours and programs, exhibits, and special events. There is also a museum which features artifacts and exhibits related to the plantation and its history. Visitors can explore the site and view the historic buildings and grounds, as well as learn about the history of the plantation and its role in Florida’s history.
