Constructed in the 1930s by Air Conditioning magnate Mark C. Honeywell, Boca Chita Light was only switched on for a short time.  Honeywell, who built the lighthouse to aid navigation to his private island, had not consulted with officials, and had built the lighthouse on the wrong side of the island, creating a hazard for ships.

The Miami Museum of Science is a science museum located in Miami, FL. It features a wide range of exhibits covering science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The museum's main building is a four-story structure that features four floors of interactive exhibits, an IMAX theater, a space-flight simulator and a planetarium. Additionally, the museum also has a facility located at the historic Miami River Inn, which houses a wide range of marine-related exhibits and activities.

The museum's main building features permanent exhibits such as the Science Court, which gives visitors the opportunity to explore science concepts through interactive exhibits; the Bio Lab, which examines the science of life; the Fossil Gallery, which showcases a variety of fossils; and the Weather Center, which explores the science of storms and other weather phenomena. The museum also features a variety of rotating exhibits, including the Fab Lab, which allows visitors to create their own products using 3D printing, laser cutting and coding.

The IMAX theater offers large-format films about a variety of scientific topics, and the planetarium offers live star shows and laser light shows. The space-flight simulator allows visitors to experience the sensations of a space flight, and the museum also offers a variety of hands-on activities and programs for children and adults. The museum also hosts a variety of special events throughout the year, such as science lectures, workshops and conferences.
