The lighthouse has been in operation since 1907, when it was built to guide ships safely into Cordova's harbor. The association works to maintain the lighthouse and its surrounding grounds, which are located on the eastern tip of Montague Island, just off the coast of Cordova.

The association also works to promote public awareness of the lighthouse and its importance to the maritime industry. Through educational programs and tours, the association seeks to educate the public about the lighthouse's history and legacy. The association also offers a research library for those interested in researching the lighthouse and its history.

In addition to educational programs and tours, the association also organizes and hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the annual Lighthouse Festival, the annual Lightkeepers Reunion, and the annual Lightkeeper’s Ball. These events are a great way for visitors to get a firsthand look at the lighthouse and its history.

The association is also actively involved in local preservation efforts.
