The Greenpeace Fund, based in Washington D.C., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the natural environment and promoting peace and social justice. The Fund was established in 1979 to provide financial support for Greenpeace’s international environmental campaigns.

The Fund's mission is to protect the environment and promote global social justice. To achieve this, the Fund works to strengthen public support for environmental issues, advance strategic litigation, promote public education and research, and develop innovative strategies and solutions.

The Fund seeks to promote global environmental and social justice by focusing on six core areas: climate change, ocean conservation, sustainable agriculture, energy, toxics and waste, and forests. It also works to protect the world’s most ecologically important areas, such as the Amazon rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Arctic.

The Fund engages in a variety of activities to achieve its mission, including strategic litigation, public education, research, and media campaigns. It also supports the work of local and regional organizations working on environmental issues.

The Fund provides grants to nonprofit organizations, individuals, and businesses working on environmental issues in the U.S. and around the world. It also serves as a fiscal sponsor to other environmental organizations, providing them with the resources to effectively carry out their activities.

The Fund is funded by private donations and foundations. It is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by a professional staff. The Fund is a member of the Environmental Grantmakers Association, the Environmental Funders Network, and the Interaction Council.
