The National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO) is a non-profit organization that serves as a professional organization for Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPOs) and other individuals involved in Native American cultural resources management. The organization was founded in 1990 to provide support and resources to Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, who are responsible for identifying, preserving, and protecting historic and cultural resources within their tribal communities. NAPTHO’s mission is to support Tribal Historic Preservation Officers in their work to preserve the cultural and historic resources of Indian Tribes and their communities.

NATHPO is based in Washington, DC and is governed by a Board of Directors, which is composed of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Regional Representatives from across the US. The organization is funded by membership dues and donations, and offers a range of programs and services to its members. These include an annual conference, training and educational resources, advocacy on behalf of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers, and access to a network of experts in the field.

NATHPO also works to advance Tribal sovereignty and cultural preservation through public policy, legislative advocacy, and education. The organization is committed to the long-term protection of Native American cultural and historic resources, and works to ensure that Tribes are fully engaged in the preservation and management of their resources.
