The Naval Historical Foundation (NHF) is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the United States Navy. Established in 1926, the NHF is located in Washington Navy Yard, DC. It is an independent organization, not affiliated with any branch of the military.

The Foundation's mission is to collect, preserve, and make available for public use, documents and artifacts related to the history of the United States Navy. The NHF also works to promote a better understanding of the Navy's role in American history through education and research.

The Foundation's collections include manuscripts, photographs, and artifacts from the Revolutionary War to the present. The collections are used by scholars, researchers, authors, historians, and the general public. The foundation also publishes a quarterly magazine, Naval History, which is devoted to naval history and heritage.

The NHF holds an annual symposium, which provides an opportunity for the public to gain insight into topics such as naval history, naval technology, and naval operations. The symposium also features lectures and panel discussions by noted historians and authors.

The NHF also conducts outreach programs such as lectures and conferences to educate the public on the history of the United States Navy. In addition, the Foundation promotes the preservation of historical naval sites around the world.

The NHF is funded by donations from the general public, corporations, foundations, and the Navy itself. It is a 501(c)3 organization and all contributions are tax-deductible. The NHF is a member of the Federation of American Scientists and the Council of American Maritime Museums.
