The Catholic University of America (CUA) is a private, non-profit university located in Washington, D.C. It is the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States and the only higher education institution founded by the U.S. Catholic bishops. Founded in 1887, CUA is the only university in the United States to be founded by the Catholic Bishops.

CUA offers more than 170 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels, including doctorates in law, philosophy, theology, business and nursing. The university also has a vibrant student life, with over 50 student organizations, a diverse campus, and a range of activities and events.

CUA prides itself on its commitment to social justice, and its mission to serve the Catholic Church and the world. The university is home to the National Catholic School of Social Service, which provides social work education and research, and the Columbus School of Law, which is ranked in the top 20 in the country.

CUA is also home to the Monastic Institute, which offers spiritual formation and academic study for monks, nuns, and other members of religious orders. This institute is the only one of its kind in the United States.

The university is also home to the National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education, which provides educational programs on the Holocaust and its aftermath to students, educators, and the public.

CUA is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and is a member of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities. It has a total enrollment of nearly 8,000 students, and its main campus is located on 161 acres in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
