American University is a private university located in Washington, D.C. It was founded in 1893 as a Methodist-affiliated institution and is now home to over 13,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from all 50 states and over 140 countries. The university is composed of nine colleges and schools and offers over 150 programs of study.

American University's main campus is located in the northwest corner of Washington, D.C. It contains more than 170 buildings, including a library, student center, dormitories, and several academic buildings. The university also has two satellite campuses in the nearby suburbs of Maryland and Virginia.

American University has a strong focus on international studies and offers a variety of programs that emphasize global understanding. It is also home to many research centers, including the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies, the Center for Environmental Studies, and the Center for Latin American and Latino Studies.

The university also has a vibrant campus life with over 200 student organizations and clubs, including a student-run newspaper, television station, and radio station. American University also has a number of Division I athletic teams and offers a variety of intramural sports.
