SEC HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The SEC Historical Society in Washington DC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Established in 2011, the Society maintains a permanent exhibit at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington, DC, and holds public programs and events to share the history of the agency with the public.

The Society collects artifacts, documents, and oral histories related to the SEC and its activities throughout the years. It also conducts research, publishes a quarterly newsletter, and produces educational programs and materials. The Society is a member of the American Association for State and Local History and the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress.

The Society’s mission is to “preserve the history of the SEC, educate the public about the importance of the SEC’s work in protecting investors and markets, and foster a greater understanding of the SEC’s role in the U.S. economy.” It seeks to create an archive of SEC history by collecting, preserving, and sharing historical materials related to the agency and its activities. The Society also works to promote the SEC’s current mission by educating the public about the importance of the agency’s work.
