The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. is one of the premier institutions in the United States devoted to preserving, interpreting, and exhibiting the built environment. The museum was founded in 1980, and is housed in the historic Pension Building. It is located on historic Pennsylvania Avenue, between the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

The museum features a variety of permanent and temporary exhibits, including some of the most iconic and significant works of American architecture. Highlights include a full-scale replica of the White House Oval Office and a model of the U.S. Capitol Building. The National Building Museum’s permanent collection is made up of over 250,000 objects, including paintings, drawings, photographs, and models, as well as a wide range of textiles, furniture, and decorative arts. The museum also houses a research library, which contains more than 20,000 volumes and 350,000 photographs related to the built environment. The library is open to the public and researchers, and is managed by a professional librarian.

The National Building Museum is open every day except for major holidays. Admission is free, though donations are encouraged. Visitors are welcome to explore the exhibits, attend educational programs, and participate in special events and workshops.
