The National Recording Preservation Foundation (NRPF) was established in Washington D.C. in 2000 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of sound recordings of historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance. The foundation works to ensure that the nation's sound recordings—which include music, spoken word, and other audio formats—are protected and preserved for future generations.

The NRPF works with government, private, and educational institutions to raise awareness of the importance of audio preservation, and to develop and implement strategies to protect and preserve audio recordings. The foundation also promotes the use of digital audio preservation technologies, such as audio restoration and digital archiving.

The NRPF's main focus is on the preservation of recorded sound and its cultural impact. The foundation works to identify and preserve audio recordings that are at risk of being lost, and to ensure the preservation of sound recordings that are in danger of being lost due to age or technological obsolescence.

The NRPF also provides training and technical assistance to help preserve and archive audio recordings in digital formats. The foundation also provides grants to organizations and individuals to help support audio preservation projects.

The NRPF is committed to the preservation of sound recordings of historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance, and works with government, private, and educational institutions to ensure that these recordings are protected and preserved for future generations.
