The Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC, is the nation's largest and most comprehensive cultural destination devoted to exploring, documenting and showcasing the African American experience. Opened in 2016, the museum is located on the National Mall and is the 19th Smithsonian Museum. It is dedicated to showcasing the complex contributions and stories of African Americans, from the origins of the Transatlantic Slave Trade to the present day.
