President Lincoln’s Cottage is a historic home located in Washington, DC. The cottage was built in 1842 and served as a summer residence and working office of President Abraham Lincoln and his family during the Civil War. It is located on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home and is the only site outside the White House that Lincoln and his family called home during his presidency.

The Cottage is a two-story brick home with a slate roof and a covered porch. Inside, visitors will find a collection of original Lincoln artifacts, including furniture, art, books, and other items from the Lincoln family. The Cottage also contains a replica of the office where President Lincoln worked and wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.

Visitors to the Cottage can take a self-guided tour of the home and grounds, or participate in a guided tour that highlights the various aspects of life in the Lincoln family during the Civil War. The Cottage also serves as a museum, hosting a variety of lectures, films, and other programs related to President Lincoln’s life and legacy.

President Lincoln’s Cottage is open to the public seven days a week, and admission is free of charge. It is a popular destination for tourists and local residents alike, and continues to serve as a reminder of the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln.
