The Fort Delaware Society is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Delaware City’s Fort Delaware. The organization was founded in 1971 by a group of local citizens who wanted to ensure the preservation of the fort, which had been abandoned since World War II.

Fort Delaware was built between 1848 and 1859 and was originally intended to defend the Delaware River from hostile forces. During the Civil War, the fort was used to house Confederate prisoners of war, and it continued to be used as a prison until 1945. Today, the fort is open to the public and is managed by the Fort Delaware Society.

The Fort Delaware Society is responsible for the fort's upkeep and runs a variety of educational programs that provide visitors with a chance to learn about the fort's history. The society also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including re-enactments of Civil War battles and annual commemorations of the fort's history.
