Historic Lewes Cat Society is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to the humane care and adoption of stray and unwanted cats in Lewes, Delaware. Founded in 2001 and serving all of Sussex County, the goal of the society is to protect and promote the health and welfare of felines through rescue, spay/neuter, fostering, and adoption. The organization also provides educational programs to the community, including cat behavior seminars and low-cost spay/neuter clinics.

The organization carries out its mission through its network of volunteers who provide foster care and adoption services, as well as its staff of veterinarians and other professionals. The society also operates a thrift shop and cat food bank, both of which provide financial assistance to low-income families who need help paying for food and medical care for their cats.

Gordon's Pond: November Dawn Watch (328/365) As the first light of day nudged the sky, I was already halfway around Gordon's Pond, having biked from the cozy campgrounds of Cape Henlopen. The November chill had my hands numbed a bit, but it was worth it. The pond was dead calm, mirroring a sky that, despite lacking a clear break, put on a color show that was nothing short of awesome. The usual suspects of dawn — chatty birds and a soft breeze — were my company. I aimed to find a spot with the WWII control towers visible from the beach on the far side. This morning was full of beautiful moments, enveloped by nature, with a lovely palette of colors painted across the sky from the sunrise.

Self Portrait at Sunrise (325/365) This is the end of a sunrise period that lit up the sky in dramatic fashion. I woke up a little before sunrise in my RV at the campground, and saw the sky shaping up for a fine morning. As I rode my bike out to the beach, I started peddling faster as I knew that the right timing was going to come and go fast, even running through the sand to get out to the shoreline before the sun came up over the horizon. After shooting from various angles and timings, I set the camera on a tripod and fired off an exposure bracket with myself out in front of the dune. It was a cold morning that got my heart going, but it was a beautiful scene to relish at the start of the day.
