Friends of the Claymont Stone School Inc. (FOCSS) is a non-profit organization located in Claymont, Delaware, dedicated to preserving the history of the Claymont Stone School, a nineteenth-century one-room schoolhouse. The organization was founded in 1993 in an effort to protect the building, which is the oldest standing schoolhouse in the state of Delaware. The building was constructed in 1809 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
FOCSS is devoted to maintaining and restoring the Claymont Stone School while preserving its historical significance. The organization works with local and state government agencies, as well as with private donors, to raise funds for the preservation and restoration of the schoolhouse.
The organization also hosts a variety of educational programs and events for the community. These include school field trips, educational lectures, and historic workshops. They also offer summer camp programs for children and adults, as well as a variety of other events throughout the year.
In addition to preserving the building, FOCSS works to preserve the history and culture of the Claymont community. The organization's mission is to foster appreciation for the history and culture of the area as well as to promote public awareness of the area's architectural heritage.
