Located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Fort Morgan State Historic Site is a 19th century coastal fort that played a pivotal role in the Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War. The fort was originally built in 1819 and served as the site of the last battle of the Civil War in 1865. The fort is made up of four main structures, including the barracks, powder magazine, and walls. The walls, which stand 30-feet high, are made of brick and are among the best-preserved Civil War walls in the country.

The fort also features several unique features, such as a moat and drawbridge. The moat was built to protect the fort from water-borne attacks, while the drawbridge allowed soldiers to move supplies and prisoners into and out of the fort. The fort is also home to the original five-gun battery, which was used to fire on enemy ships during the Battle of Mobile Bay.

Today, visitors can explore the fort and its grounds, which include a museum, a gift shop, and a picnic area. The museum features artifacts and displays that tell the story of the fort and the Civil War. The gift shop offers a wide variety of souvenirs, books, and memorabilia related to the fort's history. Visitors can also take a guided tour of the fort, which includes a visit to the powder magazine and the battery.
