The Historic Houses of Odessa, located in Odessa, Delaware, are an important part of the region's history and culture. This collection of homes includes some of the oldest surviving structures in the state.

The oldest of these houses is the Jacob Alston House, which dates back to 1790. This two-story brick home was originally built as a simple farmhouse and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has a wraparound porch, four fireplaces, and one of the oldest surviving cupolas in Delaware.

The other historic houses include the Satterthwaite House, the Taylor-Wilson House, the William Wilson House, the Brinckloe House, the Hazzard-McConnell House, and the Mitchell-Simmons House. These homes were built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and feature a variety of styles, including Federal, Greek Revival, and Italianate.

The Historic Houses of Odessa are open to the public for tours and events throughout the year. Bald Eagles with Eyes on the Prize Although I've seen a few Bald Eagles, <i>Haliaeetus leucocephalus, </i>during previous trips to Bombay Hook, I was more than surprised to find three actively feeding near the main road through the refuge. What was more surprising, while standing at the side of the road scanning the mudflats and marshes with my binoculars, I was able to count 118 eagles. Evidently the refuge is a favorite stopover when fish are spawning as the eagles migrate to the north. Someone else reported counting 138 eagles there the same week. This is the actual scene, not AI. Roth Jr. Bridge (originally the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Bridge and also referred to as the Roth Bridge) is a concrete and steel cable-stayed bridge that spans the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal near St. Georges (DE). The bridge is located near a tolled section of Delaware Route 1 that runs parallel to the St. Georges Bridge carrying U.S. Route 13. In November 2006, the bridge was named after U.S. Senator William V. Roth, Jr., who not only lent his name to the Roth IRA, but was instrumental in securing federal funding to build the bridge. It is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and does not carry a toll. The Senator William V. Roth Jr. Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge of its type in the Delaware Valley area (all previous Delaware River or C & D Canal bridges are either suspension, cantilever, or simple truss designs), is also the first pre-cast concrete bridge to be built in the United States.[It is modeled after that of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in St. Petersburg, (FL). The bridge incorporates a 3% climbing grade, a feature lacked on the nearby St. Georges Bridge. The bridge, built between 1991 and 1994, utilized pre-cast concrete segments that were made in Cape Charles (VA), and transported by barge until they reached the job site.
