The Zwaanendael Museum, located in historic Lewes Delaware, is a reconstruction of the town's original Dutch colonial settlement. Built in 1931 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the settlement, the museum stands at the site of the original town hall and meeting house. The museum is a two-story, redbrick structure with a gabled roof and a full basement. The interior of the museum features public exhibits that showcase the history of the area and its original Dutch settlers. Displays include artifacts from some of the first settlers, such as clothing, tools, and weapons, as well as furniture, documents, and paintings. The museum also features a scale model of the original settlement and a reconstructed town hall and meeting house. The exterior of the museum features an 18th-century garden, a gazebo, and a replica of the Mayflower, which was used by the Dutch settlers to reach Lewes. The museum is a popular tourist attraction and is open to visitors for free all year round.
