The Harwinton Historical Society Inc. was established in 1933 to preserve the history of Harwinton, Connecticut. The society, located in the heart of town, is managed by a volunteer board of directors and a staff of dedicated historians and volunteers. The museum is housed in an old one-room schoolhouse built in 1820 and contains a variety of artifacts from Harwinton's past, including photographs, documents, artifacts, and books. In addition, the society has a library of local history books and resources, as well as a research center.
The society hosts several annual events throughout the year, including the Harwinton Fair in August and the Harwinton Festival of Trees in December. Throughout the year, the society also hosts lectures and workshops on topics related to local history. The society also works to preserve the town's historic sites, including the Old Burial Ground, the Veterans Memorial, and the historic Harwinton Congregational Church.
