The Greater New Haven African American Historical Society Inc (GNAHHS) is located in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 2005, GNAHHS is dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the history, culture, and heritage of New Haven’s African American communities. Through educational programs, exhibits, lectures, and other activities, GNAHHS supports the African American community by highlighting the achievements, contributions, and legacies of African Americans in New Haven’s history.

GNAHHS’s mission is to serve as an educational resource, advocate, and catalyst for the preservation of African American history, culture, and heritage in the Greater New Haven area. The organization strives to inform the public of the accomplishments of African Americans in the past, present, and future. GNAHHS works in collaboration with other community organizations and institutions to develop resources, provide programming, and to promote community awareness.

GNAHHS offers a variety of programs and exhibits, including their permanent exhibit, “Preserving Our Legacy: A History of African Americans in New Haven.” This exhibit highlights the history of African Americans in the New Haven area from the colonial period to present day. It includes artifacts, documents, photographs, oral histories, and more.

GNAHHS also offers a variety of educational programs, such as historical tours and lectures. Additionally, the organization hosts an annual event, the African American Heritage Festival, that celebrates the culture and heritage of African Americans in the Greater New Haven area.

GNAHHS is an important resource for the African American community in New Haven and serves as an advocate for the preservation of African American history, culture, and heritage.
