The Middlesex County Historical Society is located in Middletown, Connecticut, and is dedicated to preserving the history of Middlesex County and its communities. Established in 1895, the Society collects and preserves artifacts, photos, documents, and other materials that relate to the history of the county. The Society also works to educate the public about the history of the area and engages in research and publishing projects.
The Society’s library and archives contain over 15,000 manuscript items, 15,000 photographs, and 1,500 volumes of books, maps, and pamphlets. These materials cover a variety of topics, from the Revolutionary War to the history of local businesses and industries, to family histories. The library holds a variety of resources, including local newspapers, county and town directories, genealogy resources, and much more.
The Society also offers a variety of educational programs, such as lectures, tours, exhibits, and special events. The Society has sponsored a variety of events in the past, including lectures on local history, tours of historic sites in the area, and even a lecture series on the history of the Connecticut River. Additionally, the Society has organized a variety of walking tours, including the “Historic Middletown Tour” and the “Connecticut Heritage Tour.”
The Society is committed to preserving the history of Middlesex County and engaging the public in the rich history of the area. The Society is open to the public and offers a variety of resources and programs for those who are interested in learning more about the area’s history.
