Colebrook Historical Society Incorporated is a non-profit organization based in Colebrook, Connecticut. It was founded in 1975 in order to promote, preserve and protect the history of Colebrook and the surrounding area. The Society is committed to educating the public about the local history by collecting and maintaining valuable artifacts, photographs and documents from the region.
The Society meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30pm at the Colebrook Congregational Church, located in the center of town. The meetings involve discussion of current projects and events, as well as sharing information on historic sites, documents, and artifacts.
The Society also maintains a museum in Colebrook which houses artifacts, photographs, and documents from the region's past. The museum is open to the public and admission is free.
The Society organizes a variety of events throughout the year. These include lectures, walking tours, and annual events such as the Colebrook Harvest Festival. The Society also participates in many local festivals, including the annual Colebrook Colonial Fair in August.
The Society is constantly working to preserve the history of the region and to make it accessible to the public. It is actively involved in public education and outreach, and works with local schools, libraries, and other community organizations to promote the local history.
