The Litchfield Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the history of the town of Litchfield, Connecticut. Founded in 1811, the Society is the oldest historical society in the state and continues to be a leading resource for the study of Litchfield’s history. The Society houses a collection of over 8,000 artifacts, including manuscripts, photographs, maps, and books.

The Society's main facility, the Tapping Reeve House and Law School, is a National Historic Landmark. Built in 1776, the house served as the home and law school of the nation’s first law school and is one of the most significant historical sites in the United States. The Society also operates the Litchfield History Museum, which features exhibits on the history of the town and the Tapping Reeve House.

The Society is actively involved in the local community, hosting lectures, workshops, and other events throughout the year. The Society also offers a variety of educational programs and activities for children and adults, as well as research assistance. Through its efforts, the Society strives to promote an appreciation of Litchfield’s rich history and to preserve the town’s legacy for future generations.
