The Western History Association (WHA) is a non-profit organization based in Fairbanks, Alaska. Founded in 1966, the WHA is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history and culture of the western United States and Canada. The WHA focuses on the people, places, and events that shaped the West, and works to bring together scholars, teachers, and the public to explore and celebrate this history.

The WHA's annual conference is held in Fairbanks each summer and draws scholars from around the world. The conference features presentations on a wide range of topics related to Western history, such as politics, the economy, and the environment. The conference also includes a variety of workshops, panels, and field trips.

The WHA also publishes a quarterly journal, the Western Historical Quarterly, which features research and articles related to Western history. The WHA also sponsors an annual essay contest, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

I'm not the Pig! The photographer modeling pipeline "pigs". Pigs each are passed through the pipeline periodically to scrape and clean the inside of the pipe -- especially when the fluid being tramsported is waxy. The pig behind me is displayed inside of a sampel section of pipeline. The Trans-Alaska Pipeline winds its way from Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean at the far north of Alaska south to Valdez, on the shores of Prince William Sound in southcentral Alaska. This is a "vista point" on the Dalton Highway north of Fairbanks. The pipeline is heated and insulated to keep the waxy North Slope crude from solidifying and plugging it. It is elevated at this point to keep the heated pipeline from melting the permafrost soil.
Midnite Sun Festival Held every year around the summer solstice in Fairbanks, Alaska. The street fair runs from noon to midnight. On this day, in Fairbanks the sun rose at 3:39 am and set at 1:47 am. There was no darkness, only a couple of hours of bright dusk.
