The Western History Association (WHA) is a non-profit organization based in Fairbanks, Alaska. Founded in 1966, the WHA is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history and culture of the western United States and Canada. The WHA focuses on the people, places, and events that shaped the West, and works to bring together scholars, teachers, and the public to explore and celebrate this history.

The WHA's annual conference is held in Fairbanks each summer and draws scholars from around the world. The conference features presentations on a wide range of topics related to Western history, such as politics, the economy, and the environment. The conference also includes a variety of workshops, panels, and field trips.

The WHA also publishes a quarterly journal, the Western Historical Quarterly, which features research and articles related to Western history. The WHA also sponsors an annual essay contest, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students.
