Friends of the Valley Railroad Inc. (FVRR) is a non-profit organization based in Essex, Connecticut, whose mission is to preserve the rich history of the Valley Railroad. Founded in 1969, FVRR works to preserve the historic railroad and its related artifacts, promote the educational and recreational aspects of railroading, and advocate for the continued preservation and enhancement of the Valley Railroad.

FVRR's effort to preserve the Valley Railroad can be seen in its operation of the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, a popular tourist destination in Essex. FVRR also works to preserve the Valley Railroad's historical artifacts, including its collection of locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars, and other rolling stock.

In addition to its preservation efforts, FVRR is active in the promotion and education of railroading. The organization works with local schools to host educational trips on the Essex Steam Train, and partners with other organizations to host rail-related events, such as the annual Railroad Days Festival.

FVRR also advocates for the continued preservation and enhancement of the Valley Railroad. The organization is currently working on plans to improve the infrastructure of the railroad and restore it to its former glory.

Through its preservation efforts, education activities, and advocacy initiatives, FVRR works to ensure that the Valley Railroad will remain a part of Connecticut's rich history for generations to come.
