The Fairbanks Tired Iron Charitable Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Fairbanks, Alaska. Founded in 1978, the organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living in the Fairbanks area. The foundation is focused on providing assistance to low-income individuals and families in need of basic items such as food, clothing, and housing. I'm not the Pig! The photographer modeling pipeline "pigs". Pigs each are passed through the pipeline periodically to scrape and clean the inside of the pipe -- especially when the fluid being tramsported is waxy. The pig behind me is displayed inside of a sampel section of pipeline. The Trans-Alaska Pipeline winds its way from Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean at the far north of Alaska south to Valdez, on the shores of Prince William Sound in southcentral Alaska. This is a "vista point" on the Dalton Highway north of Fairbanks. The pipeline is heated and insulated to keep the waxy North Slope crude from solidifying and plugging it. It is elevated at this point to keep the heated pipeline from melting the permafrost soil.
Midnite Sun Festival Held every year around the summer solstice in Fairbanks, Alaska. The street fair runs from noon to midnight. On this day, in Fairbanks the sun rose at 3:39 am and set at 1:47 am. There was no darkness, only a couple of hours of bright dusk.

Examining Burn Residue August 4, 2022 Poker Flat Research Range; Chatanika, Alaska Justin Costello from Alaska Clean Seas examines the burn residue collected after an intentional burn of Alaska North Slope crude oil. In situ-burning is one of several tactics that can be used to clean up oil spills. When conducted properly, in-situ burning can significantly reduce the amount of oil present on the water. This was one of several test burns conducted in early August 2022 to better understand the fate and transport of smoke flumes from these types of operations. The results will be used to update contingency planning models and inform policies and procedures for emergency responders. This project was superbly coordinated between a number of stakeholders including the U.S .Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Research and Development, Office of Emergency Management, and Region 10; the Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Uncrewed Systems Office; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Air Resources Laboratory; the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Strike Force; the University of Alaska Fairbanks’s Poker Flat Research Range and International Arctic Research Center Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Team; and Alaska Clean Seas. BSEE’s Oil Spill Preparedness Division supports research and development projects such as this to provide offshore owners and operators and other stakeholders with new or improved technologies, tools, and tactics to effectively and safely combat oil spills.
